Audi Q7 (2015-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Serene ride on air suspension | Strong resale values make used examples expensive |
| Beautifully made and practical interior | Third row not as roomy as a Land Rover Discovery's |
| SQ7 is very fast indeed | Styling looks a bit awkward |
Quick Summary
The Audi Q7 (2015-present) is an excellent luxury seven-seat SUV that improved upon its predecessor in nearly every way. Weighing around 240kg less than the first generation, the second-generation Q7 delivers improved ride and handling whilst maintaining surprising fuel economy for such a large vehicle. The interior is superbly finished with a standard of quality that rivals premium competitors, featuring a fully digital cockpit with configurable displays and dual infotainment touchscreens that create a genuinely hi-tech feel. With a 780-litre boot expanding to 1,908 litres with the rear seats folded, it offers exceptional practicality for families and those needing versatile cargo space.
The Q7 is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine available in 218bhp and 268bhp versions, both delivering impressive performance and pulling power for towing. All models feature quattro four-wheel drive and Audi Drive Select, allowing drivers to choose between efficiency, dynamic, comfort, and individual modes. Buyers can opt for adaptive air suspension, which provides a serene low-speed ride and enhanced body control. Running costs are reasonable for a car of this size and performance, with the 218bhp version achieving 52.3mpg on the combined cycle. The 2019 facelift introduced mild-hybrid technology and an e-tron plug-in hybrid option, whilst the high-performance SQ7 offers exhilarating speed for those willing to accept higher fuel consumption and insurance costs.
Best for: Families seeking a spacious, luxurious seven-seat SUV with excellent build quality, those prioritising comfort and practicality, and buyers wanting a premium alternative to Land Rover Discovery or BMW X5.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those seeking the roomiest third row (Land Rover Discovery offers more space), or those who prefer more conventional styling.

The Verdict
You should buy the Q7 if: You're seeking a spacious, luxurious seven-seat SUV with excellent build quality, prioritising comfort and practicality, or wanting a premium alternative to Land Rover Discovery or BMW X5.
Consider alternatives if: You're budget-conscious, require the roomiest third row, or prefer more conventional styling over the Q7's awkward design.
Competitive Position: The Audi Q7 (2015-present) stands as a compelling choice in the luxury SUV segment, matching the BMW X5 for expert appeal whilst offering a more serene ride through optional air suspension. Its beautifully appointed interior and practical seven-seat layout rival the Land Rover Discovery, though the Discovery offers slightly more third-row space. The Volvo XC90 edges ahead in user satisfaction, but the Q7's combination of performance, refinement, and practicality makes it an excellent choice for discerning buyers. Strong resale values reflect its quality and desirability, though this means used examples command premium prices. The SQ7 variant offers thrilling performance for those willing to accept higher running costs, whilst the 50 TDI and earlier 268bhp models provide the best balance of capability and affordability.

4.7 Overall rating
(23 reviews)Great comfort and spacious. Great for long journeys, happy customer
Very comfortable and user friendly. Thirsty on fuel, needs a good budget to work well.
Back seats fold back completely in the 5 seat version, unlike most similar cars like Lexus, Mercedes, Porsche. More reliable than Range Rover.
This is a wonderful car, truly beautiful, driving comfort, smoothness and, most importantly, safety for the family.
Its an amazing car that drives smooth, very responsive & quite with hardly any road noise.
