Bentley Continental (2018-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| A huge advance over its predecessor | Such class and quality come at a price |
| Amazing blend of agility and continent-crossing comfort | Extremely high running costs |
| Opulent interior is truly luxurious | A Ferrari 812 Superfast is more exciting to drive |
Quick Summary
The Bentley Continental (2018-present) represents a significant leap forward from its predecessor, thanks to its new Porsche-derived platform that fundamentally improves handling and refinement. This grand tourer masterfully balances the dynamism of a sports car with the cosseting luxury of a limousine, offering either a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 or a 6.0-litre W12 engine. The W12 variant delivers an impressive 626bhp and a top speed of 207mph, whilst the V8 provides a more economical alternative. With clever chassis technologies including variable anti-roll bars, torque vectoring, and four-wheel drive, the Continental GT is inherently better balanced and far more agile than its predecessor.
The interior is one of the most opulently appointed cabins available, featuring hand-stitched leather, quality wood veneer, and comprehensive technology including a 12.3-inch infotainment system with satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay. Practicality is excellent for this class, with a 358-litre boot and genuine rear seat space for adults and child seats. However, running costs are substantial, with fuel economy around 20-24mpg in real-world driving, expensive tyre replacements, and servicing costs ranging from £799 for minor services to £1,199 for major ones. This is a car for those prepared for the considerable cost of ownership.
Best for: Buyers seeking the most rounded grand tourer available, those who value the perfect balance of performance and luxury, and drivers who appreciate exceptional craftsmanship and opulent interiors.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those concerned about fuel economy and running costs, or drivers prioritising outright handling excitement over comfort and refinement.

The Verdict
You should buy the Continental if: You're seeking the most rounded grand tourer available, value the perfect balance of performance and luxury, and appreciate exceptional craftsmanship and opulent interiors.
Consider alternatives if: You are budget-conscious, concerned about fuel economy and running costs, or prioritise outright handling excitement over comfort and refinement.
Competitive Position: The Bentley Continental (2018-present) is the undisputed master at balancing agility with continent-crossing comfort. Whilst the Aston Martin DB11 and Ferrari 812 Superfast offer sharper handling, and the Rolls-Royce Wraith provides greater luxury, no car juggles these disciplines quite like the Continental. Its new platform, derived from Porsche engineering, delivers superior dynamics compared to its predecessor. However, strong sales have meant resale values aren't as robust as they might be, and running costs are inevitably hefty. For those prepared for the cost of ownership, the Continental GT is one of the most brilliantly executed cars on sale today.

5 Overall rating
(19 reviews)Customers say
The Bentley Continental impresses across model years with its luxurious comfort, striking appearance, and remarkable performance. Owners frequently mention the smooth drive and elegant design, making it a favorite for long-distance travel. However, some have raised concerns about the navigation system and fuel economy, noting that while the car excels in many areas, it may not be the most eco-friendly choice. Overall, the Bentley Continental stands out for its combination of style and power, often being described as a beautifully crafted machine that delivers a premium driving experience.

What people say
The Bentley Continental is one of the best second hand buys, they are so cheap now. If you buy one just make sure it has a good recent history. Minimum of the last 3 years. The only car that compares is the BMW M5.
All features fabulous; drives like a thoroughbred, looks lovely but a tad thirsty!! Buy one, you'll not regret.
The car not only looks beautiful, sounds beautiful, performs beautifully and much of it is built by hand. Its just BEAUTIFUL!
The 2015 Bentley continental is unmatched. So much of the car is hand built. The leather upholstery is hand stitched by 120 skilled women in the factory, the woodwork is similarly cut, shaped and finished by hand. The car weighs in excess of 1.75 tonnes yet can top 200mph!
It’s a superb car with great handling characteristics. Negative side was the very clunky and basic navigation system. Mine was very reliable , it was always serviced by the manufacturer with whom I had no complaints. I deeply regret selling mine.
