Cupra Tavascan (2024-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Looks cool inside and out	Ride is rather firm on entry-level V1 version
Spacious and practical	Not cheap
Appealingly individual design	You might get tired of explaining what it is

Quick Summary

The Cupra Tavascan is an all-electric coupe-style SUV that combines striking, individualistic design with impressive practicality and strong performance. Available in four versions—V1, V2, VZ1, and VZ2—it offers either rear-wheel-drive (282bhp) or all-wheel-drive (335bhp) powertrains, with the latter accelerating from 0-62mph in just 5.5 seconds. The 77kWh battery delivers an official WLTP range of up to 353 miles, whilst the 540-litre boot provides ample space for families and commuters alike. Standard equipment is generous across the range, including LED headlights, keyless entry, three-zone air-conditioning, and adaptive cruise control.

The Tavascan's slinky roofline doesn't compromise interior space, offering excellent headroom and legroom for rear passengers. Most versions feature adaptive suspension that balances comfort and handling, though the entry-level V1's passive setup feels noticeably firmer. The infotainment system, centred around a 15-inch touchscreen, is feature-rich but somewhat overcomplicated. Charging at home takes around 11-12 hours on a 7.4kW wallbox, costing approximately £22 per full charge at standard rates, whilst DC rapid charging reaches 80% in 28 minutes. Prices start at around £47,000, making it a premium proposition in the electric SUV market.

Best for: Buyers seeking a distinctive, stylish electric SUV with strong performance, generous equipment, and practical space for families.

Not ideal for: Those prioritising affordability, preferring a softer ride on the entry-level model, or seeking simplicity in infotainment systems.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Tavascan if: You want a distinctive, stylish electric SUV with strong performance, generous standard equipment, and practical space for families and commuters.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise affordability, prefer a softer ride, or seek simpler infotainment systems with fewer complications.

Competitive Position: The Cupra Tavascan is a compelling choice in the premium electric SUV segment, offering striking design and strong performance. Whilst it trails the Kia EV6 and Polestar 2 in overall ratings, it competes favourably with the Volkswagen ID.4 and offers more distinctive styling than most rivals. Its main drawbacks are the firm ride on the entry-level V1, the complex infotainment system, and its premium pricing. However, for buyers seeking an individualistic, well-equipped electric SUV with genuine performance credentials, the Tavascan represents a genuinely appealing alternative to more conventional rivals.
