Kia Proceed (2019-2024) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Handsome estate-meets-coupe looks | Bland driving experience |
| Generous seven-year warranty | Limited engine line-up |
| Lots of standard kit | A bit pricey as a new car |
Quick Summary
The Kia Proceed (2019-2024) is a stylish shooting brake that blends estate car practicality with coupe-like aesthetics. Launched in 2019, it resurrects the Proceed nameplate as a premium alternative to conventional boxy estates. With 594 litres of boot space, it rivals traditional estates like the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports and Ford Focus Estate. The roofline slopes dramatically, but rear headroom remains generous, and Kia has equipped the car with luggage hooks and lashing points for secure cargo transport. A reversing camera comes as standard to compensate for the reduced rear visibility caused by the rakish design.
Engine options include a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol (138bhp), a 1.6-litre diesel (134bhp), and a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol GT variant (201bhp). From 2021, Kia introduced a more powerful 1.5-litre petrol (158bhp) that replaced the 1.4-litre. The 1.5-litre offers the best balance of power and efficiency, delivering around 40mpg in real-world driving. The diesel achieves 45-50mpg, whilst the GT manages 30-35mpg. All models feature generous standard equipment including LED lights, heated seats, keyless entry, and an eight-inch (later 10.25-inch) touchscreen. The Proceed rides well with poise and agility, though it lacks the engaging driving dynamics its sporty styling suggests. Reliability is a key strength, backed by Kia's seven-year warranty.
Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish, practical estate car with excellent equipment and reliability, those wanting something more distinctive than conventional estates, and drivers prioritising comfort and ease of ownership.
Not ideal for: Enthusiasts seeking engaging driving dynamics, those wanting maximum boot space (traditional estates offer more), or buyers on a tight budget.

The Verdict
You should buy the Proceed if: You need a stylish, practical estate car with excellent equipment and reliability, want something more distinctive than conventional estates, or prioritise comfort and ease of ownership.
Consider alternatives if: You seek engaging driving dynamics, require maximum boot space, or are shopping on a tight budget.
Competitive Position: The Kia Proceed is a strong contender in the shooting brake segment, offering a compelling blend of style, practicality, and equipment. Whilst the Ford Focus Estate delivers more engaging driving dynamics and the Volkswagen Golf Estate provides superior German build quality, the Proceed stands out for its distinctive design, generous warranty, and excellent value proposition. The Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake offers premium appeal but at a significantly higher price point. For buyers seeking a stylish, reliable, and well-equipped estate car that doesn't compromise on practicality, the Proceed represents an intelligent choice that balances aesthetics with everyday usability.

5 Overall rating
(2 reviews)Very reliable cars & excellent comfort. A beautiful car to drive.
Packs a lot of bang for the buck. Theres a lot of stigma still associated to the Kia brand, but I liken this to how noone would touch Japenese motorbikes back in the day, but now theyve taken over and market leaders.
