| Well equipped | Top-spec models are very pricey |
Quick Summary
The Kia Sportage (2022-present) is the UK's best-selling SUV, accounting for around 40 per cent of all Kia registrations. The latest generation was launched in 2022 and updated in 2025, offering petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains across three well-specified trim levels: Pure, GT-Line and GT-Line S. It delivers impressive practicality with boot space ranging from 587 to 591 litres, generous storage throughout, and a spacious interior with comfortable rear-seat legroom. The quality of materials and fit and finish are impressive by class standards, with a wide range of Kia accessories available to enhance functionality.
The Sportage strikes a sensible balance between comfort and driver engagement, offering a comfortable ride at all speeds with plentiful grip and keen cornering. The hybrid model is particularly popular, delivering 235bhp with seamless EV and petrol power switching, whilst the entry-level 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol offers 147bhp. All versions feature a 12.3-inch infotainment screen (post-facelift), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlights, parking sensors and comprehensive active safety systems. Running costs are respectable, with hybrid models achieving 40-45mpg and strong residual values, though higher-spec models incur premium vehicle excise duty. Kia's seven-year warranty provides reassuring peace of mind.
Best for: Families seeking a practical, well-equipped SUV with multiple powertrain options, those prioritising technology and comfort, and buyers wanting strong warranty coverage.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising sharp driving dynamics (Ford Kuga is sportier), buyers with divisive styling preferences, or those seeking budget-friendly top-spec models.

The Verdict
You should buy the Sportage if: You're seeking a practical, well-equipped family SUV with multiple powertrain options, prioritising technology and comfort, or wanting strong warranty coverage.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise sharp driving dynamics, have divisive styling preferences, or seek budget-friendly top-spec models.
Competitive Position: The Kia Sportage (2022-present) is one of the strongest all-rounders in the family SUV class, standing out with bold styling, a smart interior and generous practicality. Its superb infotainment, well-integrated technology and comprehensive equipment levels across all specifications make it highly competitive. Whilst rivals like the Ford Kuga offer sharper driving dynamics and the Hyundai Tucson shares the same platform, the Sportage's well-judged balance of ride comfort and handling, combined with Kia's reassuring seven-year warranty and multiple powertrain choices, make it an easy family SUV to recommend. It faces more rivals than ever before, but remains the UK's best-selling SUV for good reason.

What people say
Love the heated seats - front and back. A comfortable car.
I looked at the Ford Kuga, Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Qashqai as I prefer an SUV however the Kia Sportage GT-line was everything I wanted. Parking sensors, heated seats (front and back), leather and a spacious boot with a pull cover. Very smooth to drive, quick on the uptake and big enough for my whole family including the dog.
You buy a car for what you need. The kia Sportage fitted most of our requirements. Its spacious, comfortable, economical and good looking. I hope its reliability reputation holds. Just driven to Netherlands and it behaved impeccably. Well done Kia.
