The Kia Stonic 4 is well appointed and was good value for money. Ours could do with a sunroof. Similar to the Hyundai Koni.

Kia has a good reputation so we decided this model would suit our requirements. It has all the features you would like in a mild hybrid car. The value of second hand cars at the moment is high but we did look around and this was the best deal we could get. the only thing missing is automatic folding mirrors !!! .... We did look at several other makes and models, Renault Capture, MG ZS and Hyundai Kona.

Kia Stonic (2017-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Generous seven-year warranty | Most basic cars miss out on some safety systems |
| Lots of standard kit on all models | Firm ride won't suit everyone |
| Good to drive | Diesel particulate filters can clog if used for short journeys |
Quick Summary
The Kia Stonic is the Korean manufacturer's smallest SUV, launched in 2017 to compete with rivals such as the Seat Arona, Citroën C3 Aircross, and Skoda Kamiq. Built on the same mechanical platform as the Kia Rio hatchback, it offers a compact footprint with impressive styling and generous equipment levels. The cabin features a low driver's seat that feels more hatchback-like than typical SUVs, providing a more engaging driving experience. With a 352-litre boot and space for five occupants, it balances practicality with a sporty character that sets it apart from less dynamic rivals.
The Stonic majors on style, equipment, and driving engagement, with a range of petrol and diesel engines to suit different needs. The 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol with 118bhp offers the best balance of efficiency and performance, whilst the 1.6-litre diesel suits high-mileage drivers. All models benefit from Kia's renowned seven-year warranty and strong reliability record. Running costs are competitive, with insurance groups ranging from 8 to 14 of 50, and servicing intervals of 10,000 or 20,000 miles depending on engine type. The 2020 facelift introduced new trim levels and an upgraded infotainment system, enhancing the overall package.
Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish, well-equipped compact SUV with excellent warranty coverage, those prioritising driving engagement over comfort, and families wanting a practical vehicle with strong reliability.
Not ideal for: Those preferring a softer, more comfortable ride, buyers requiring comprehensive safety systems on entry-level models, or diesel owners planning only short journeys.

| Skoda Kamiq | 5/5 | 5.0/5 | 36.0% | 4.6/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Stonic if: You want a stylish, well-equipped compact SUV with excellent warranty coverage, prioritise driving engagement over comfort, or seek a practical family vehicle with strong reliability credentials.
Consider alternatives if: You prefer a softer, more comfortable ride, require comprehensive safety systems on entry-level models, or plan only short journeys with a diesel engine.
Competitive Position: The Kia Stonic is a compelling all-rounder in the compact SUV segment, offering impressive styling, generous standard equipment, and engaging driving dynamics. Whilst the Skoda Kamiq edges ahead with a marginally higher overall rating and superior comfort, the Stonic's seven-year warranty, strong user ratings, and value proposition make it an excellent choice. It outperforms the Citroën C3 Aircross and matches the Seat Arona on expert ratings, whilst offering a more engaging drive than many rivals. For buyers balancing style, practicality, and warranty peace of mind, the Stonic deserves serious consideration.
