Land Rover Range Rover Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Excellent ride quality and refinement | Infotainment could be more responsive |
| Opulent interior | Reliability still a concern |
| Hugely roomy and practical | Expensive to buy and run |
Quick Summary
The Land Rover Range Rover is the original full-size luxury SUV and remains the model that defines Land Rover's most upmarket offering. Since its launch in 1970, it has combined genuine off-road capability with long-distance comfort and a high-end interior. The current generation offers both standard and long-wheelbase versions, with the latter available in a seven-seat layout. With four-wheel drive as standard, a choice of petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid engines, and a commanding driving position, the Range Rover delivers a truly sumptuous driving experience. The boot offers 818 litres with five seats in place, whilst the long-wheelbase seven-seater provides limousine-like legroom, though luggage space is compromised with all seats in use.
The Range Rover is exceptionally refined, with serene ride quality, poised handling, and a tight turning circle despite its five-metre-plus length. The latest infotainment system features a 13.1-inch touchscreen with sat-nav, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Diesel engines return around 39mpg, whilst plug-in hybrids offer up to 75 miles of electric range. However, the Range Rover is an expensive proposition to buy and run, with servicing required annually. Reliability remains a concern, though improved build quality and material finish offer hope for the future.
Best for: Buyers seeking a luxurious, spacious, and refined full-size SUV with genuine off-road capability, executive chauffeur use, and those prioritising comfort and practicality over running costs.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those concerned about reliability, or drivers seeking lower running costs and modest purchase prices.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Land Rover Range Rover | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 32.1% | 4.5/5 |

| BMW X7 | 4/5 | 4.0/5 | 31.2% | 3.8/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Range Rover if: You seek a luxurious, spacious, and refined full-size SUV with genuine off-road capability, require executive chauffeur use, or prioritise comfort and practicality over running costs.
Consider alternatives if: You are budget-conscious, concerned about reliability, or seeking lower running costs and modest purchase prices.
Competitive Position: The Land Rover Range Rover is a truly sumptuous and delightful luxury SUV that absolutely feels like the six-figure car it is. Whilst the Audi Q7 offers slightly better value and the Bentley Bentayga provides ultimate prestige, the Range Rover strikes an excellent balance between opulence, practicality, and off-road capability. Its exceptional ride quality, refinement, and spacious interior make it one of the finest prestige SUVs available. However, reliability concerns and high running costs mean it is best suited to buyers for whom purchase and operating expenses are secondary considerations. With improved build quality and material finish, this generation offers genuine hope that Land Rover's patchy reliability reputation may finally be addressed.

(43 reviews)Excellent car nothing missing but would prefer Autobiography as it got a bit more on the spec
Fantastic car, would definitely recommend. Lots of “toys” and extremely comfortable.
This Sport model is by far the best overall design in the Land Rover/ Range Rover stable. The interior is spacious, with a touch of Class in layout, easily accessible and functional controls, in a luxiriour interior. Overall performance is Best in it s Class. Great all round performance and reasonable MPG.
