With a smooth transmission and clutch, this easily maneuverable car presents an excellent value for money. Mazda 2 comes with a range of tech goodies such as built-in navigation, and as a compact hatchback, it is a great competitor for a Corsa or Fiesta. Very happy with the purchase!

Very comfortable light care, enjoyable to drive and keeps you on your toes even with its low horse power of 85 and this cheap car insurance and road tax can’t go wrong.

Mazda2 (2015-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Improved safety after 2020 refresh | Boot is on the small side |
| Low running costs | Non-turbocharged engines can feel flat |
| Fun to drive | No EV model offered |
Quick Summary
The Mazda2 (2015-present) is an often-overlooked supermini that deserves far greater recognition. Now in its fourth generation, it combines distinctive styling with a well-proportioned interior and impressive driving dynamics. The relatively long wheelbase and compact overhangs deliver good interior space, though the 280-litre boot lags behind newer rivals like the Skoda Fabia. The dashboard is well laid out with quality materials that feel a step above budget offerings, whilst the 2020 facelift brought enhanced safety features and modern infotainment including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across the range.
The Mazda2 excels on the road with accurate, direct steering and plenty of grip, making it genuinely fun to drive. Its non-turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engines (75bhp, 90bhp, or 115bhp) require working fairly hard compared to turbocharged rivals, but reward enthusiastic driving with a snappy manual gearbox. Running costs are impressively low, with fuel economy in the low 60s mpg for most variants, whilst insurance groups remain reasonable at 13-16. Servicing costs are moderate, and Mazda offers fixed-price maintenance plans. As a used car, it represents excellent value for those seeking a well-rounded, economical, and enjoyable supermini.
Best for: Drivers seeking a fun-to-drive supermini with low running costs, those prioritising good looks and quality interior materials, and buyers wanting an overlooked gem that offers excellent value.
Not ideal for: Those requiring maximum boot space, drivers wanting turbocharged engines with strong mid-range pull, or buyers seeking an electric vehicle option.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mazda2 | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 32.8% | 4.3/5 |

| Vauxhall Corsa | 3/5 | 4.5/5 | 34.5% | 4.2/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Mazda2 if: You seek a fun-to-drive supermini with low running costs, value good looks and quality interior materials, or want an overlooked gem offering excellent value.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum boot space, prefer turbocharged engines with strong mid-range pull, or need an electric vehicle option.
Competitive Position: The Mazda2 (2015-present) is a strong all-rounder in the supermini class, offering engaging driving dynamics that rival the Ford Fiesta whilst maintaining low running costs comparable to the Vauxhall Corsa. Whilst the Volkswagen Polo offers more premium appeal and better value deals are available, the Mazda2's distinctive styling, quality interior, and fun-to-drive character make it a compelling choice for those willing to look beyond the obvious choices. Its improved safety features following the 2020 refresh and comprehensive infotainment systems across the range further strengthen its appeal as a used supermini.
