Mercedes-Benz EQC (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Relaxed and comfortable to drive | Not as much fun as a Jaguar I-Pace |
| Very quick, but cheap to charge | High insurance premiums |
| Spacious and practical | Some rivals can recharge more quickly |
Quick Summary
The Mercedes-Benz EQC is the German brand's first pure-electric SUV, designed to compete with the Audi e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace. It features an 80kWh lithium-ion battery delivering a maximum driving range of 248–252 miles according to WLTP figures, though real-world range is typically 200–220 miles in warm weather and around 180 miles in winter. Despite its smaller battery than rivals, the EQC is the most efficient of the three premium electric SUVs. Charging via Type 2 and CCS sockets, it achieves an 80% charge in approximately 75 minutes at a 50kW DC rapid charger, or 40 minutes at 100kW ultra-rapid stations. A standard 7kW home wallbox provides a full charge in under 13 hours.
The EQC excels in comfort and refinement, offering 402bhp from twin electric motors with four-wheel drive, delivering 0–62mph in 5.1 seconds whilst maintaining a serene, unruffled driving experience. The spacious five-seat cabin features a 500-litre boot with 40/20/40 split rear seats, premium leather upholstery, and a sophisticated single-piece screen integrating a 10-inch touchscreen and digital dials. Running costs are exceptionally low at under 6p per mile, with exemption from VED road tax saving approximately £1,500 in the first year. However, insurance premiums are high, and servicing is required every 15,000 miles or 12 months.
Best for: Buyers seeking a luxurious, comfortable electric SUV with low running costs, those prioritising refinement and practicality, and drivers with access to home charging facilities.
Not ideal for: Those wanting the sportiest handling (Jaguar I-Pace), drivers without home charging access, or buyers concerned about high insurance costs and premium equipment pricing.

The Verdict
You should buy the EQC if: You seek a luxurious, comfortable electric SUV with low running costs, prioritise refinement and practicality, and have access to home charging facilities.
Consider alternatives if: You want the sportiest handling, lack home charging access, or are concerned about high insurance costs and premium equipment pricing.
Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz EQC is a sumptuous and refined choice in the premium electric SUV market, offering excellent comfort, practicality, and low running costs. Whilst the Jaguar I-Pace edges ahead with superior handling and user ratings, and the Tesla Model X provides more seating flexibility, the EQC's efficiency, serene driving experience, and prestigious badge make it highly competitive. It outperforms the heavier Audi e-tron in efficiency and comfort, and with competitive finance deals and numerous nearly-new examples available, it represents strong value in the premium electric SUV segment.

4.5 Overall rating
(4 reviews)Lovely comfortable car with great performance for the price
It’s a stunningly good looking car. Best of the mid range suvs currently out there and certainly in the MB group. It’s robust build guarantees a pleasurable and comfortable ride and the extent to which it reduces, no eliminates road noise is exceptional. It’s expensive but worth the value. I just wish they’d added the basic feature of a phone charging pad as standard. It’s a shame this model is discontinued but then again that makes them rare and that bit more special when you find one you like.
Great vehicle,Drives smooth and quiet, lovely interior and pretty good tech. Easy to navigate control buttons and clear instruction. Love the touch screens and sharpness of the colours. Very specious. And comfy to drive
Lacks range otherwise its a nice car but pricey
