Mercedes-Benz EQC (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Relaxed and comfortable to drive | Not as much fun as a Jaguar I-Pace |
| Very quick, but cheap to charge | High insurance premiums |
| Spacious and practical | Some rivals can recharge more quickly |
Quick Summary
The Mercedes-Benz EQC is the brand's first pure-electric SUV, designed to compete with the Audi e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace. It features an 80kWh lithium-ion battery delivering a real-world range of 200–220 miles in warm weather, with efficiency that matches or exceeds its rivals despite a smaller battery. The EQC offers rapid charging capabilities, reaching 80% charge in 40 minutes at 100kW ultra-rapid chargers, and can fully charge via a 7kW home wallbox in under 13 hours. With 402bhp from dual electric motors powering all four wheels, it combines performance with serene refinement and exceptional comfort.
The EQC excels as a practical family SUV with a 500-litre boot and spacious rear seating, though it prioritises comfort over sportiness. Running costs are significantly lower than comparable petrol or diesel SUVs, with charging costs around 6p per mile and exemption from VED road tax saving approximately £1,500 annually. The cabin features premium materials, a 10-inch touchscreen integrated with digital dials, and comprehensive standard equipment, though some features like adaptive cruise control remain optional. As a nearly-new purchase, the EQC offers excellent value for buyers seeking a sumptuous, environmentally conscious electric SUV.
Best for: Buyers seeking a comfortable, practical premium electric SUV with low running costs, those prioritising refinement and relaxed driving, and environmentally conscious drivers wanting financial incentives.
Not ideal for: Drivers wanting sharp handling and sportiness (Jaguar I-Pace offers more), those concerned about high insurance costs, or buyers needing the fastest charging speeds available.

The Verdict
You should buy the EQC if: You seek a comfortable, practical premium electric SUV with low running costs, prioritise refinement and relaxed driving, or want financial incentives through tax exemptions.
Consider alternatives if: You desire sharp handling and sportiness, are concerned about high insurance costs, or require the fastest charging speeds available.
Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz EQC is a sumptuous and highly practical premium electric SUV that delivers excellent comfort and efficiency. Whilst the Jaguar I-Pace offers superior handling and sharper styling, and the Tesla Model X provides more seating flexibility, the EQC's serene refinement, spacious interior, and competitive running costs make it an outstanding choice for buyers prioritising comfort and practicality. With attractive finance deals and numerous nearly-new examples available, the EQC represents exceptional value in the premium electric SUV segment.

4.5 Overall rating
(4 reviews)Lovely comfortable car with great performance for the price
Great vehicle,Drives smooth and quiet, lovely interior and pretty good tech. Easy to navigate control buttons and clear instruction. Love the touch screens and sharpness of the colours. Very specious. And comfy to drive
Lacks range otherwise its a nice car but pricey
The Mercedes-Benz EQC is a really marvelous car to drive, quiet, responsive. magnificantly put together in the cabin, MBUX system is still to be mastered but already one of the best systems I have had. Cannot shout loud enough about the quality of the car ....... except range, what a disappointment although advertised at 259 miles have only managed to achieve maximum 213 real mileage.
