Polestar 4 (2024-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Fabulously glamorous looks	Infotainment can be baffling
Huge interior space	No rear window
Cool design and good quality	Slightly shaky reliability record

Quick Summary

The Polestar 4 is an unconventional and highly desirable all-electric SUV-coupé that combines striking Scandinavian design with impressive practicality. Its most distinctive feature is the absence of a rear window, a bold design choice that allows for a sleek roofline whilst maintaining excellent rear headroom and legroom. The interior is spacious and sophisticated, with a 526-litre boot expandable to 1,536 litres with the rear seats folded. Two powertrains are available: a Single Motor with 268bhp delivering 0-62mph in 7.1 seconds, and a Dual Motor with 536bhp achieving 3.8 seconds. Both feature a massive 100kWh battery offering an official WLTP range of up to 385 miles.

The Polestar 4 excels in comfort, performance, and technology, with a Google-powered infotainment system, premium equipment, and impressive DC rapid charging capabilities. However, the touchscreen-reliant interface can be overly complicated, and the lack of a rear window may not appeal to all buyers. Running costs are reasonable for an electric vehicle, with home charging costing approximately £26 for a full charge on standard tariffs. The car represents a stylish and entertaining alternative to conventional prestige SUVs, offering genuine value within the premium electric market.

Best for: Buyers seeking a distinctive, glamorous electric SUV with excellent interior space, strong performance, and cutting-edge technology; those prioritising design and sophistication over traditional conventions.

Not ideal for: Drivers uncomfortable with the no-rear-window design, those seeking a straightforward infotainment system, or buyers concerned about emerging brand reliability records.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Polestar 4 if: You desire a distinctive, glamorous electric SUV with exceptional interior space, strong performance, and premium technology; you value design innovation and are willing to embrace unconventional features.

Consider alternatives if: You prefer traditional rear windows, seek a simpler infotainment experience, or prioritise established brand reliability records.

Competitive Position: The Polestar 4 stands out in the premium electric SUV market through its bold design and generous interior space, offering a genuine alternative to conventional rivals. Whilst the Tesla Model Y delivers superior user ratings and the BMW iX3 provides established premium credentials, the Polestar 4 competes strongly on value, with the highest percentage of good and great deals available. Its unique design language, sophisticated interior, and impressive performance make it an excellent choice for buyers seeking something different from mainstream prestige electric SUVs, particularly those valuing style and practicality over conventional expectations.
