Seat Alhambra (2010-2020) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Fantastically practical | Some potential reliability issues |
| Sliding doors a real boon | Ford S-Max is better to drive |
| Surprisingly enjoyable to drive | Luggage space tight with all seven seats in place |
Quick Summary
The Seat Alhambra (2010-2020) is a seven-seat MPV that represents a significant improvement over its predecessor. Longer and wider than the original model, it offers substantially improved cabin space with room for a full-grown adult in each of its seven seats. The practical sliding doors make passenger access easier in tight car parks, whilst electrically opening and closing doors were available as an optional extra. With integrated child seats, Isofix mounts on all five rear seats, and seats that fold away when not needed, the Alhambra is exceptionally family-friendly. Boot space is tight with all seats upright, but with the third row folded there's 809 litres, expanding to a van-like 2,430 litres with both rear rows stowed.
The Alhambra is one of the finest MPVs to drive, with decent body control, plenty of grip, and assured steering that makes it surprisingly gratifying to handle. Available with a choice of TSI petrol and TDI diesel engines, the 2.0-litre diesels offer the best balance of performance and economy. The 2015 facelift brought new engines consuming up to 15% less fuel, uprated safety systems, and improved infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Diesel models achieve 40-57.6mpg depending on engine and specification, whilst insurance groups start from 13 out of 50 for early diesels. For budget-conscious buyers seeking a well-cared-for example with full service history, the Alhambra offers exceptional practicality and driving enjoyment.
Best for: Families needing seven seats, those prioritising practicality and space, and drivers seeking an MPV that's genuinely enjoyable to drive.
Not ideal for: Buyers concerned about potential reliability issues, those wanting the sharpest driving dynamics (Ford S-Max), or those with limited luggage needs when all seven seats are occupied.

The Verdict
You should buy the Alhambra if: You're a family needing seven seats, prioritising practicality and space, and seeking an MPV that's genuinely enjoyable to drive.
Consider alternatives if: You're concerned about potential reliability issues, want the sharpest driving dynamics, or have limited luggage needs with all seven seats occupied.
Competitive Position: The Seat Alhambra (2010-2020) is a standout choice in the seven-seat MPV market, offering exceptional practicality, clever space management, and surprisingly engaging driving dynamics. Whilst the Ford S-Max edges ahead for pure driving enjoyment and the Citroën Grand C4 Picasso offers better value deals, the Alhambra strikes an excellent balance between practicality and performance. Its sliding doors, flexible seating, and spacious cabin make it one of the cleverest used MPVs available. With a full service history and careful maintenance, it represents outstanding value for families seeking a practical, enjoyable seven-seater.

5 Overall rating
(3 reviews)VN66KZH So far so good. Runs really well and very clean and tidy. Definate improvement on my earlier model. Good price.
Very comfortable and spacious with lots of good features. Kids love the panoramic roof!
Giving it 5* as it does look nice in battleship grey as I call it, and it drives lovely, has a lot of toys, 240v inverter, blinds in rear doors are just to name some of the items that were not mentioned.. to get the same spec in the VW Sharan, you would probably look at an additional £2k However, the leg space in the 2nd row isnt the best, felt there is more in a Vauxhall Zafira. And if I would have really searched I would have preferred the same spec car but without leather, not a fan of sticky back and legs!
