Great for countryside living with good urban ability. Will come with muddy tracks snowy hills and small enough to pass by on narrow lanes. Perfect for 2 adults and dogs.

Excellent little 4x4 excellent value . A bit short on extras . Camera , parking aids , alloy wheels , (would defo get seat conversion ) sound deadening could be up graded . All in all a cracking little 4x4 . A real little off roader for a fraction of a Range Rovers cost .

Just what I wanted. I am a Suzuki Jimmy fan- owned one for 14 years and this is the upgrade to the new model having waited one year for prices/availability to settle.

Suzuki Jimny (2018-2024) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Brilliant to drive off road | Noisy and uncomfortable on tarmac |
| Quirky and characterful looks | Cramped rear seats and tiny boot |
| There's nothing else quite like it | Over-inflated used prices |
Quick Summary
The Suzuki Jimny (2018-2024) is a diminutive yet rugged off-roader that modernises the iconic boxy design with a miniature Mercedes G-Class stance. At under 3.5 metres long and weighing only 1,135kg, it's half a metre shorter than a Ford Fiesta. The fourth-generation model gained an instant fan base for its achingly cool looks and single-minded focus on durability and all-terrain utility. However, its high CO2 emissions led to its removal from sale after only two years, with subsequent sales as a light commercial vehicle. Despite this short-lived availability, the Jimny's unique appeal and cult following have driven used prices significantly higher than its original retail value.
The Jimny excels off-road with scarcely believable capability thanks to its short overhangs, lofty ground clearance, and low-range gears. However, it's fundamentally impractical for daily use: the non-turbo 1.5-litre petrol engine produces just 90mph top speed and 0-62mph in around 12 seconds, whilst the ride feels lumpy and unsettled on tarmac. The rear seats are cramped, the 377-litre boot is tiny, and engine noise at motorway speeds is considerable. Running costs are reasonable, with 41.5mpg official WLTP economy and insurance group 13-14, but the inflated used market means you'll pay a premium for this characterful machine.
Best for: Off-road enthusiasts, buyers seeking a unique and characterful vehicle, and those prioritising all-terrain capability over everyday practicality.
Not ideal for: Families needing rear passenger space, commuters requiring comfort on longer journeys, or those seeking a practical daily driver with adequate boot space.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Suzuki Jimny | 2/5 | 4.7/5 | 20.5% | 3.8/5 |
| Dacia Duster | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 36.3% | 4.3/5 |
| Suzuki Ignis AllGrip | 3/5 | 4.6/5 | 33.5% | 4.1/5 |
| Fiat Panda 4x4 | 3/5 | 4.3/5 | 38.1% | 4.0/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Jimny if: You're an off-road enthusiast seeking a unique and characterful vehicle with scarcely believable all-terrain capability, and you're willing to accept compromises on everyday practicality and comfort.
Consider alternatives if: You need a practical family car with adequate rear space and boot capacity, require comfort on longer journeys, or seek better value for money with more balanced road manners.
Competitive Position: The Suzuki Jimny (2018-2024) occupies a unique niche in the compact SUV market. Whilst rivals like the Dacia Duster and Fiat Panda 4x4 offer superior practicality, comfort, and value, the Jimny's unmatched off-road prowess and distinctive character justify its premium used pricing for dedicated enthusiasts. The Dacia Duster emerges as the more sensible all-rounder, offering better expert ratings and significantly more good/great deals, whilst the Fiat Panda 4x4 provides excellent value. However, if you want a Jimny, there is simply nothing else like it, making it a cult classic despite its considerable compromises.
