Volvo V60 Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |

| Supreme long-distance comfort | A BMW 3 Series Touring is nicer to drive |
| An interesting alternative to a BMW or Mercedes | The V60 is starting to feel its age |
Quick Summary
The Volvo V60 is a sophisticated and stylish estate car that prioritises comfort, practicality and understated elegance. With 529 litres of boot space (expanding to 1,441 litres with rear seats folded), it offers ample luggage capacity for families and long-distance travellers. The current B4 mild-hybrid petrol engine delivers 194bhp with respectable fuel economy of 37.6-44.1mpg. Superior rear passenger space, comprehensive safety features including City Safety with automatic braking, and a refined driving experience make it an appealing choice for those seeking a premium estate car without the sportiness of rivals.
The V60 comes in two trim levels—Plus and Ultra—both featuring Google operating system integration, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Ultra adds LED matrix headlights and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. Whilst the V60 has been on sale since 2018 and lacks the cutting-edge technology of newer rivals, its timeless design, exceptional comfort and comprehensive standard equipment justify consideration. Running costs are reasonable, with servicing around £290 and insurance group 29-30, though VED is higher due to the £40,000 luxury car tax threshold.
Best for: Drivers seeking a comfortable, stylish estate car with premium appeal, those prioritising long-distance refinement and practicality, and buyers wanting an alternative to German premium brands.
Not ideal for: Those requiring maximum boot space (Skoda Superb offers more), drivers seeking engaging handling (BMW 3 Series Touring is sportier), or buyers wanting the latest technology and design.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Volvo V60 | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 36.6% | 4.3/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the V60 if: You value sophisticated design, premium comfort and long-distance refinement, and seek an interesting alternative to German premium brands without sacrificing practicality.
Consider alternatives if: You need maximum boot space, prioritise engaging handling, or require the latest technology and design features.
Competitive Position: The Volvo V60 holds its own in the premium estate car segment, offering distinctive Scandinavian styling and exceptional comfort that rivals struggle to match. Whilst the BMW 3 Series Touring edges ahead in driving dynamics and the Skoda Superb provides greater boot capacity, the V60's refined approach, superior rear passenger space and comprehensive safety equipment make it a compelling choice for those prioritising comfort over sportiness. Its premium appeal sits between the German marques and the value-focused Skoda, offering a thoughtful alternative for discerning buyers. However, its age means newer rivals offer more advanced technology.

What people say
Very comfortable solid and feels well built a change from German cars
It is a solid safety orientated car. Full of useful gadgets and comfortable to drive. I would have preferred it to have a spare wheel instead of the inflatable foam as any blow out would mean that it could not be driven. In any case once you use the expanding foam it would mean that you would have to replace the tire instead of getting it repaired.
The car was great value for money , a lot of good features and an excellent drive
Solid, safe and reliable car. Excellent economy with plenty of room.
I am really impressed with all the safety features and the build quality of this car. Now I know why my son loved his Volvo cars.
