Kia’s new-model blitz continues with the 2026 Kia Niro, an updated version of the existing crossover model that arrived in 2022. In the past year, the Korean brand has launched the all-new EV4, EV5, K4 and PV5 Passenger, and announced plans to bring the new Seltos to the UK. It’s also introduced an updated Stonic and now it’s the turn of the Niro, which gets a mid-life makeover to help it keep it looking fresh alongside all that other new metal.
Here’s what we know so far about the 2026 Kia Niro.

2026 Kia Niro: styling and dimensions
In the same way that Kia updated its Picanto city car and Stonic crossover by giving them the latest family look, it’s pulled off the same trick with the Kia Niro. Very successfully, too, we’d say. At the front, there’s a new bumper and grille that give a cleaner look. There are redesigned headlights that sit slightly higher than before, and which incorporate Kia’s new ‘star-map’ lighting signature.
As before, the Niro has contrasting black cladding around the wheel arches and along the side doors. The images released so far show a Korean-spec car with a body-coloured C-pillar – it’s unclear yet whether the option of a contrasting C-pillar will be continued with the updated UK model. The car pictured also has an all-black window surround, suggesting that the previous chrome trim insert has been deleted, but this may change for UK-spec cars.
Speaking of the C-pillar, it (unusually for a facelift) has an all-new design, with an added horizontal crease and a new shape to accommodate redesigned rear lights. It also appears that the previous air vent at the front of the pillar has been removed, but this hasn’t been confirmed yet.
The changes at the rear are also quite far-reaching for a facelift. The bumper and tailgate have been completely redesigned for a more sharp-edged, geometric appearance and re-shaped rear lights are now integrated into a shiny black trim element that looks as though it’s designed to improve aerodynamic efficiency.
Kia hasn’t released any details of the updated Niro’s dimensions; they’re likely to be all but identical to the current car’s, with new bumpers potentially giving a tiny increase (or decrease) in length.

2026 Kia Niro: interior design and practicality
A redesigned dashboard brings the 2026 Kia Niro into line with its latest models, with a very similar design and layout to what you’ll find in the EV3, EV4, EV5 and Stonic. That means a split-level design with a strong horizontal emphasis and a widescreen display that’s composed of two separate 12.3-inch screens but looks like one large display.
Elsewhere, the interior design appears to be as before. Passenger space and boot capacity are also likely to be unchanged, so the Niro will remain family-friendly if not hugely spacious.

2026 Kia Niro: engines and driving dynamics
Kia hasn’t released any technical specs for the updated Niro yet, but any changes are likely to be minimal.
Currently, the Niro is available as a (self-charging) hybrid or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, with both combining a 1.6-litre petrol engine with an electric motor. The hybrid gives about 64mpg, while the PHEV has an official average of more than 350mpg and offers a pure-electric range of about 40 miles.
The pure-electric Niro EV is no longer available to order new in the UK. It’s unclear whether it will return as part of the updated range but we wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t since Kia now offers the EV3 and EV4, which are about the same size and price as the Niro and offer far longer battery ranges.
2026 Kia Niro: price and release date
Kia hasn’t confirmed pricing or an on-sale date for the revised Kia Niro yet, although it says more details will be announced in spring 2026. The model is due to arrive in the second half of the year.
We’d expect spec and pricing to remain much the same; the Niro Hybrid currently costs between £30,845 and £35,865, while the Niro Plug-in Hybrid ranges from £35,485 to £40,485.
